Chapter 7: Payment Due

The party is scheduled to meet with The Collector 10 days after the quest began. They are to meet at crossroads on the eastern outskirts of Greenwood Village. There, the party will deliver the quarry and accept payment… unless the party has other ideas in mind.

The Collector doesn’t have the gold on him. It is hidden in the shadow plane. He will transport it immediately upon having the full Pyramidion Stones in his possession. If the PCs insist they see the gold first, the vampire gives them a vision of the gold in an open wooden chest, sitting on a flat black boulder in the wilderness of the shadow plane. The vision is legit and not a trick. The Collector fully intends on paying the party upon having the full Pyramidion Stones in his possession. He then asks for the PCs to produce the Stones so he can see them. He can sense if the proper creatures are contained within the stones once he touches them.

If the party chooses to release any creatures from the Pyramidion Stones, the creature immediately tries to resolve its rest requirement. The banshee will seek out her son Ferdinand, the ghost will seek revenge on the Collector, and the hound will seek out Franthia (the banshee). All released creatures can sense their rest requirement spirits if nearby, even if they are trapped within a Pyramidion Stone. For example, if Franthia is released from her stone, she can sense Ferdinand is nearby, and will stop at nothing to get to him.

Primary Objectives

  • Meet the Collector at the crossroads on the eastern outskirts of Greenwood Village.
  • (Optional) Deliver the requested quarry to the Collector.
  • (Optional) Collect payment from the Collector.
  • (Optional) Release one or more creatures from the Pyramidion Stones.
  • (Optional) Deal with the Collector.
  • (Optional) Receive the powers of the trapped creatures.

Freeing the Spirits

If the Collector sees the party trying to release the creatures from the Pyramidion Stones, he immediately commands them to stop and asks what they are doing.

If the party continues to release creatures, or if the Collector summons 3 Sugar Elementals, the Collector attacks but will give them one last opportunity to stop. If they continue, the Collector will attempt to steal the stones and escape if possible. To steal the stones, the Collector must grapple the PC as an action, then succeed on a Sleight of Hand check as a bonus action to grab the stone.

If the creatures are released from the stones, Furball reunites with Franthia, Franthia reunites with her son Ferdinand, and Ferdinand seeks revenge on the Collector. Once Ferdinand attacks the Collector, Franthia attacks him as well. Furball always follows Franthia’s lead.

Payment Received

If the party gives the full Pyramidion Stones with the correct spirits inside, the Collector produces a wooden chest full of the promised gold, and one finely forged writ of pardon for each character. He then transforms using the Vampiric Mist ability to flee the area. If he is threatened or attacked, he summons three Sugar Elementals (if not already summoned).

If the party succeeds in releasing all the creatures from the Pyramidion Stones and each released creature attains their rest requirement, the party earns a special ability from each creature as shown below.

  • Perception of the Spectral Hound (+5 on perception check, 1 per long rest)
  • Wrath of the Woeful Banshee (may use Woeful Scream, 1 per long rest)
  • Ghostly Movement (may use Incorporeal Movement, 1 per long rest)
